Statement on the Passing of 10th Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland, Bishop Richard Lennon

St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, the Sisters of Charity Health System and the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine are deeply saddened by the passing of The Most Rev. Richard Gerard Lennon, bishop emeritus of the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland on Tuesday, October 29. We extend our deepest sympathies to the many lives touched by Bishop Lennon and our Sisters’ prayers are with the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.

During his time in Cleveland, Bishop Lennon became a great friend to many of our Sisters and to our ministries, and we are very grateful that he has so faithfully served our Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. He was a wonderful pastoral leader who advocated for the underserved. St. Vincent Charity Medical Center, the Sisters of Charity Health System and the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine were blessed to partner with the Bishop and Catholic Diocese of Cleveland in many ways to serve our community.

As we remember Bishop Lennon, we celebrate a life lived serving with dignity, compassion and courage.
