2020-2022 Community Health Needs Assessment Implementation Plan
The Community Health Needs Assessment Implementation Plan keeps us in compliance with IRS regulations and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Through this process, we defined priority health issues that St. Vincent Charity will address. This process allows us to focus our resources toward prevention, education, wellness and outreach that will have the greatest impact on the community we serve. St. Vincent Charity's 2020-2023 Community Health Needs Implementation Plan was approved by the Board of Directors on April 1, 2020. It is available here for review.

The Sisters of Charity Health System, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, is the sole owner today. The Sisters of Charity Health System also owns Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Providence and Providence Northeast in Columbia, SC, and 50 percent of St. John Medical Center (with University Hospitals) in Westlake.
St. Vincent Charity Medical Center is located on one city block between East 22nd and East 24th streets and Central and Community College avenues. It is one of the anchor institutions in Cleveland’s Campus District, along with Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University. We like to say all roads lead to St. Vincent Charity. We are easily accessed off I-90/I-71 and I-77.
The seven-story hospital is licensed by the state of Ohio for 438 beds; but staff about 200 on a regular basis. It has a state-of-the-art Emergency Department, Psychiatric Emergency Department, lab, pharmacy, radiology, Wound Center, operating room, rehab therapy, Healthcare Clinics and five inpatient floors, including two recently remodeled with private rooms. Kindred Gateway, a long-term acute-care (L-TAC) hospital leases the entire seventh floor and is separately staffed and managed.
Yes, St. Vincent Charity has always been a Catholic hospital and follows the Ethical and Religious Directives of the Catholic Church. It has always been owned and governed by our Foundresses, the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine.
St. Vincent Charity Medical is open to all individuals regardless of race, religion and ability to pay. We have managed-care contracts with many providers and accept many types of insurance. St. Vincent Charity is also a disproportionate share hospital, meaning we care for a higher percentage of uninsured or underinsured individuals. This is our mission.
We have surgical programs and surgeons who draw from a wide geography for patients who seek their expertise in spine and orthopedic, and bariatric surgery. We are also well-known for our Department of Behavioral Health, which includes emergent psychiatric care, acute inpatient stabilization, geropsychiatry, outpatient psychiatry and addiction and recovery programs. We also have strong programs in wound care, general surgery, endoscopy, pain management and cardiology.
We changed our name from St. Vincent Charity Hospital to St. Vincent Charity Medical Center in January 2010 to better reflect our organization as a teaching institution.
Yes, we have residency programs in internal medicine, podiatry and dentistry. We are also a training facility for pharmacy and nursing students.
We have nearly 400 physicians on our Medical Staff. Most of those physicians are independent, meaning they are self-employed and choose to affiliate with St. Vincent Charity Medical Center because of our physician-led environment that values the independent, entrepreneurially minded physician. We also have St. Vincent Medical Group, which employs about 35 physicians.
