If you had to choose one word to describe Mary Martin, what would it be?

…and the list goes on. These are just a small sampling of the words that caregivers used to describe Mary Martin, RN, in our Recovery Room. It’s easy to understand why Mary was selected as St. Vincent Charity’s 2016 recipient of the Clinical Nursing Excellence Award. She was recognized by her fellow nurses for her dedication to patients and her enthusiasm for the profession of nursing. Clinical Nursing Excellence Award winners facilitate quality patient care with sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population, serve as a patient advocates and are viewed as role models and mentors for other nurses. Back in May during St. Vincent Charity’s annual Nurses’ Week celebration, Mary was presented with the award, but that was only the beginning.

On October 6, 2016, we hosted our signature fundraising event Caritas: A Celebration of St. Vincent Charity in Cleveland. At the event, in front of an audience of 500 people, we were able to honor individuals who personify the mission and values of our hospital, including Mary.

“Each morning when I come to work and I peek into the patient holding room, I see Mary’s face and it makes my day. I’m always so happy to see her because I know everything will go wonderfully.”

Mary Martin’s contagious smile comforts and uplifts her patients in the post-surgery recovery unit. She has dedicated more than 15 years of excellent care to St. Vincent Charity and is known for her friendly attitude and willingness to make personal sacrifices for her team. She shares her knowledge openly and cares for others without hesitation. At work and in her personal life, Mary serves all God’s people equally with respect and dignity.
